FAQ

Updated: March 24, 2025

This FAQ is mostly Unity oriented. You can find our new article about how to upload Godot builds if that's your engine of choice.

  • How do I upload a game?
    • Go to SIMMER.io/upload and drag your entire WebGL export folder onto the drop area. Do not zip. Watch our how-to video if you need help exporting a WebGL Game from Unity
  • My upload doesn't work! Help.
    • Does it run locally?
      • When you "Build and Run" from Unity, it should open a browser window http://localhost:<some_port>.
      • If it's broken there, it won't work on SIMMER, and that's outside the scope of our support. Hint: open Chrome Developer tools and look on the javascript console for red errors.
    • If it runs locally and doesn't run on SIMMER, you can also look on the javascript console on SIMMER for hints.
      • If that fails, you can zip up your build, put it on google drive and then email support@simmer.io for help.
      • We don't support external javascript plugins (.jslib files in unity). Those are stripped out when you do the upload.
    • Other support channels are discord and reddit.
  • What type of content is permitted on SIMMER?
    • We ask that you keep it PG-13. No nudity or graphic violence please.
  • Does SIMMER.io claim any rights on my game?
    • You always own your game. SIMMER hosts the game, and may use it on a website, or someday, a SIMMER app if we decide to create one. We can use images from your game in our marketing materials.
    • You can delete your game from the service at any time.
  • How do I get my game on the front page?
    • Our curators look for games with great interesting gameplay, a great screenshot, and good descriptions to promote to the front page.
    • Sometimes we have a long queue of games to review. If you really want us to review your game early send a nice note to support@simmer.io.
  • I found a bug on SIMMER.io.
  • I want to upload a build from Unity 2019 or below.
  • I want to change my username or email.
    • Reach out to support@simmer.io.
  • I want to embed my game on my website.
    • Sure, we offer this for free. We don't show preroll ads on embedded games right now, we reserve the right to do so in the future to support our hosting costs. Look for it on your game's edit page. (https://simmer.io/@<username>/<game>/edit).
  • Can anyone embed my game on their website?
    • Yes, we follow the YouTube style model where your content can be embedded elsewhere. We would like to offer more control over this in the future.
  • Can I embed a game from another site onto SIMMER?
  • Can I host my game on a custom domain without SIMMER branding?
  • I don't like the SIMMER logos all over my game loading screen and want a custom loader with my logo.
  • What is the game size limit?
  • Why not more?
    • Our research shows that many people bounce (cancel the game load) if the upload size is large.
  • I want to upload my game privately.
    • We offer unlisted uploads for SIMMERconnect subscribers. These will have an obscure URL and be hidden from search engines, however anyone with the link can still access the game.
    • We would love to offer "true" private in the future.
  • Do you support connecting to other services (logins, leaderboard, etc)
    • SIMMER doesn't offer these services natively on the site, but doesn't restrict outbound traffic to other websites as long as it uses https:// or wss:// protocols. (insecure http:// and ws:// are not supported). You will have to make sure those external sites support CORS requests.
  • Do you support other engines (Godot, Unreal, etc).
    • Currently just Unity although we want to add more.
  • Who runs the site?
    • Hi my name is Rocco. I was a professional game developer turned web developer. Helping indies show off their work is my passion. I have a few other contractors that help me with support and curation. I built the site from scratch :-).
    • We've been around since 2017, with hopefully many years to come!
  • My game is slow or crashes on mobile devices.
    • Unfortunately this is a limitation of some of the more demanding Unity WebGL games, it's not a limitation of SIMMER itself.
    • We wrote about Testing your WebGL build on Mobile if you want to try it without uploading to SIMMER.
  • I need Unity support.
    • Sorry, we don't have the bandwidth to help with Unity issues.
  • How do I view the data that SIMMER has stored? How do I delete my account?
    • Visit https://simmer.io/data.
    • If you're annoyed with our emails, just click the unsubscribe or stop button at the bottom of any email.
