Dalgona
Dalgona, a game that became widespread through the popular Netflix series Squid Games, was first created after the Korean War in the 1950’s. In a given amount of time, children carefully try to eat around a pattern imprinted on a honeycomb sugar candy without breaking it. Players can choose which pattern they wish to attempt, though the umbrella is notorious for its difficulty, while the triangle is the easiest.

The Unity rendition of Dalgona is a 2D tracing game with triangle, circle, star, and umbrella Procreate graphics that each become cracked if a player fails in the given time constraint. The code incorporates polygon 2D colliders and line renderers to achieve the tracing effect as well as the “out of bounds” detector. The game also opens with the ominous, yet iconic Squid Game soundtrack. Since this was the last game of the study, I was able to minimize the number of bugs I encountered by altering my approach from the start – I had learned from my previous mistakes. Once I finished the game, I brought it to school during exam week allowing some of my friends to give it a go before and after their tests. They all enjoyed the stress-relieving activity and after attempting one shape, they instantly wanted to try another.
