Magnetic Field due to a Coil
This is a simulation of a magnetic coil acting on a magnetometer. You can change the maximum current and the voltage on the power supply and the number of turns tapped off the coil. You then can see and record the deflection of the needle by positioning yourself and using the degree scale. It is also possible to move the magnetometer along the platform away from the centre of the coil. Short instructions are available on the in-game screen, click on the arrows on the projector to advance the slideshow. The relevant book chapter (from Advanced Physics Practicals) is available in game. Click on the right page to advance. You can also email me for full instructions (rob@virtual-science.co.uk). This is one of thirty experiments from the Virtual Physics Laboratory. This has gained the Association for Science Education's Green Tick of approval. More information at https://www.virtual-science.co.uk/ This is a free Physics resource which you are free to use in the classroom.
If you need more comprehensive instructions then email me for them at rob@virtual-science.co.uk.
