Gain familiarity with the stages and age ranges for theories by Piaget and Erikson.

The stages for Piaget's Cognitive Theory: Sensorimotor (0 - 2 years), Pre-operational (2 - 7 years),  Concrete operational (7 - 11 years old), and Formal operations (12+ years old).

The stages for Erikson's Psychosocial Theory: Trust vs. Mistrust (0 - 18 months), Autonomy versus Shame/Doubt (18 months - 3 years), Initiative versus Guilt (3 - 5 years), Industry versus Inferiority (5 - 13 years), Identity versus Confusion (13 - 21 years), Generativity versus Stagnation (40 - 65 years), Integrity versus Despair (65+ years).

This activity is an example of a Perceptual Learning Module (PLM). A PLM helps people with rapidly extracting information, internalizing frequently occurring patterns, and automaticity (e.g., when you drive home, without really needing to think how you are driving the car). PLMs are not about memorizing facts. Explicit rules can be given, but are not necessary. Learning occurs as a result of a rapid cycle of testing and feedback. For more examples of PLMs by other faculty, check out https://teaching.nmc.edu/perceptual-learning-methodmodule-plm/
